Putting Your Lawn Mower
to Rest for Winter
Your own personal lawn mower has been a loyal fair weather
companion. And so at the end of the mowing time, give it the attention it is
deserving of. Spend just a little time making up your mower for safe-keeping
over the winter, and you are getting to enjoy a happier reunion throughout
spring. Here are some tips on what you can perform now to be sure your mower
will start easily next planting season. Make sure your operator's manual is
usually on hand for quick reference point when you work on your mower.
Remove the Battery
It's a good idea to take out your lawn mower battery pack
for the winter and retail store it in a cool, dry out place. Be sure to store
the idea away from gas cans, this inflatable water heater or furnace. Remove
the battery cable in the battery, starting with the damaging cable (it will
have some sort of minus sign). Remove the power supply and wipe it off of with
a cloth. Clean the electric battery terminal using a metal comb, or clean it
which has a battery cleaner product such as Briggs & Stratton Battery pack
Terminal Cleaner. For extra protection, coat all définitif with a product like
the Briggs & Stratton Terminal Suppressor.
Clean your Mower
Comb or hose off foliage, grass and mud from your mower.
Always remove the spark connect lead wire from the put before doing this or any
various other mower maintenance, and cassette or tie it out on the way. Gently
tip your own walk behind mower about its side to aerosol the underbody. If dust
is caught on the cutting tool, use a stick or instrument to remove it - by no
means use your hands
.
Use Gasoline
Stabilizer Correctly
You shouldn't retailer your lawn equipment along with a
partially full fuel aquarium. Either run the equipment outside of fuel, or use
energy stabilizer in a full reservoir of fuel. Add the actual stabilizer (also
called gas preserver) according to package information. Then - and this is
vital - run the mower for a few minutes so that the stabilizer circulates
through the carburetor. Typically the stabilizer keeps fuel fresh new for up to
6 months. Turn off the particular engine and completely complete the gas tank.
A full container will help prevent moisture via condensing in the tank which
will form rust that could break free and clog the carburetor.
Store your Mower in the Dry Place
Store your current mower in a dry, shielded place such as
your storage or a garden shed. Never shop it next to a central heater, water
heater or appliance having a pilot light.
